This coverage includes arc segments that describe meridians and parallels
at an interval of two degrees of longitude and two degrees of latitude
in the Australia and New Zealand area (Australia, New Caledonia, New Zealand,
Tonga and Vanuatu; and portions of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands).

Purpose:
-
To provide a locational reference grid of latitude and longitude to Open
File Report 97-470F Maps Showing Geology, Geologic Provinces, and Oil and
Gas Fields of the Asia Pacific Region; Plate 3: Australia and New Zealand,
which is being compiled as a reference for the U.S. Geological Survey's
World Energy Project assessment of undiscovered, technically recoverable
oil and gas resources of the world. This coverage is used to produce a
map and an Adobe Acrobat Portable Document of the map to be published on
CD-ROM. An Arcview shapefile derived from this coverage is used in an Arcview
project and an ArcExplorer project.
